Port of Tema Performance Statistics from 2003-2016
Total cargo traffic volumes at the Port of Tema in 2016 rose by 1,269,288 tonnes a 10.5% increase over the previous year’s performance. The import sector was particularly successful with local and transit imports increasing by 8.4% and 19.6% respectively over its 2015 performance.

There was a very significant 25.3% increase in overall local exports in 2016 derived from respective increases in Shea nuts, steel plates, NAPHTA, aluminum ingots and general containerized traffic.

GPHA Corporate Port Performance (Tema & Takoradi) from 2003-2016

GPHA’s ports corporately handled 19,459,834 tonnes of cargo in 2016. This was a significant 2,615,172 tonnes and 16% increase in cargo traffic handled in 2015.
Transit traffic handled by both ports also positively increased by 161,324 tonnes (20.6%). Container traffic also determinedly continued its previous year’s positive growth trend with a 101,868 TEU (12.1) increase in 2016.
