MODERN PORT FACILITIES
Over the past decade the Port Authourity has expanded the existing port, built new terminals, upgraded IT systems, and widened operational partnerships and networks. This is reflected by the port’s ability to handle increasing volumes of traffic from 7.3 million tonnes in 2003 to 13.4million tonnes in 2016. Development projects completed in 2016 include a new reefer Terminal, a four (4) berth bulk jetty, a one stop service revenue and data centre, the refurbishment of the transit terminal and the electronic gating system amongst many others. The National Drive to make the Port Community's activities paperless is positive for the development of the maritime economy. Various products used in our day to day lives have passed through the port. Either wholly or, partially as a raw material. Cargo types handled include Agri Bulk, bagged cargo, containerized cargo, dry bulk, forest products, frozen cargo, general cargo, iron/steel, liquid bulk, machinery/equipment, and vehicles. Professional stevedores and shorehandlers are readily available with the expertise and equipment to handle your precious cargo.
PRIVATE SECTOR PARTICIPATION
The port is an autonomous public port. However there is immense collaboration with the private sector. Shipping, transport, haulage, port terminal operators and many others work in tandem with the Port Authority to provide stellar service.
We are one of the most secure ports in the sub region. Both sea side and land side surveillance are consistent and top notch.

PORT OF TEMA ISO CERTIFICATE
The Quality Management System governing the Management of Port Facilities, Servicing of Vessels, Receiving and Delivery of Cargo to our Clients worldwide was initially ISO 9001:2008 certified. From December 2016 the Port of Tema's Quality, Environmental Management and Occupational Health and Safety Systems were certified under the ISO Integrated Management System: QMS 9001: 2015; EMS 14001:2004; and OHSAS 18001:2007 Please click here.
PORT VISITS AND GUIDED TOURS
There are daily guided port tours from Tuesdays to Fridays. These include a drive through the port with a lovely view of anchorage where you can see different types of vessels. Tema Port is being expanded to meet National Traffic growth, Transit and Transhipment Trade demands. Projects completed in 2016 include: A Four berth Bulk Jetty, A new Reefer Terminal, A new revenue and data processing centre, A refurbished terminal for Transit cargo and a new net mending wharf at the Tema Fishing Harbour. These have been done in tandem with further expansion in port automation and upgrades of existing Information technology systems such as the Electronic Vessel Booking System, automated security and gate access systems and the new Terminal Operating system.
