Management of the Tema Fishing Harbour has met with its stakeholders for its 4th quarterly stakeholder engagements to assess the progress of activities at the fishing harbour.
The 4th quarter stakeholders meeting was also an opportunity to update them about the status of ongoing development.
Ag. General Manager of Fishing Harbour, Joana Adda revealed that projects such as re-construction of the Chemu Trapezoid Drains, Street naming and Construction of Health Post at Tema Fishing Harbour, are steadily progressing.
“The fishing community has been craving for the re-construction of the Chemu lagoon for over twenty years. Thank God this time GPHA has budgeted and work has already started,” she said. Joana Adda added that GPHA has handed over a portion of the boat yard Enyedado Company to use as cold store but the rest of the yard remains useful for boat yard activities.
She stated that GPHA has outlined a new payment plan to collect the accrued rent of those occupying GPHA’s properties and said the deadline has been extended to June 2020. She also said the newly revised GPHA tariffs has begun implementation. Another notable development disclosed was the concept of an emergency road exit at the fishing harbour and according to Ing. Kwabena Asamoah, Port Civil Engineer, consultants have been engaged to conduct feasibility studies. “We have gotten a consultant who has started working and has brought his first report,” he revealed. Acting President of National Fisheries Association of Ghana (NAFAG), Simon Agah, commended GPHA for the emergency Exit initiative and called for expedited processes for its construction. “If anything should happen now we have no exit so we commend you and we hope that you go beyond the feasibility and actually put it into the budget for next year,” he said. Other Members of the fishing business community welcomed these projects with praise.
They also expressed their gratitude to the late Kumi Adjei-Sam, former General Manager of the Tema Fishing Harbour who was very instrumental in the success of projects at the Fishing Harbour.
