TBT donated 1700 bags of cement towards the reconstruction of the town of Appiatse.

The General Manager at the Tema Bonded Terminal, Yasmin Arthur explained that “it is part of our corporate social responsibility. We are in the transport industry for dangerous goods. We store, handle, and deliver dangerous goods. So, the explosion that took place, obviously touched our hearts.”

It would be recalled that less than a month ago, Corporate GPHA visited the Appiatse township and donated 2000 bags of cement for the same purpose.

Speaking during the official presentation of the donation, the Chairperson of the Appiatse Support Fund Committee, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, revealed that so far approximately GHC 39.2 million in cash and kind has been raised for the Appiatse support fund.

She said the funds collected will be given to the Appiatse reconstruction implementation team to reconstruct the town and help return the members of the community to a sustainable livelihood.

Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee entreated public servants, staff of corporate bodies and the entire Ghanaian populace to support the fund, no matter how small.

The Fire and Safety Manager at the Port of Tema, Edward Heyman indicated GPHA’s resolve to continue to ensure the safe handling of dangerous cargo at the ports.

He said, “we are also reviewing our standard procedures to ensure that such incidents do not occur within the port and also the corridors for which these goods are transported.”
