The Tema Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Barnabas Nambont Nasumong, has paid a courtesy call on the Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, to deepen collaboration on port security, particularly in the wake of the commencement of 24-hour operations at Ghana’s ports.

The visit, which took place on Monday, July 15, 2025, focused on enhancing coordination between the Ghana Police Service and GPHA security to ensure the safety of life and property within the port environment. With the newly launched round-the-clock port services expected to increase activity at the ports, the Regional Police Commander emphasized the need for heightened police presence to deter crime and maintain law and order.

DCOP Nasumong indicated that the Police Service has ensured police visibility and response mechanisms across the port enclave and surrounding areas to preempt any criminal attempts that may arise as a result of the increased port traffic and extended operational hours.

For his part, Brigadier General Tanye-Kulono lauded the continuous cooperation between GPHA’s security team and the Tema Regional Police Command. He commended the proactive stance of the Police in maintaining a visible presence at the port and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to working closely with law enforcement agencies to provide a safe and secure business environment for all port users.

The Police Commander was accompanied by his Staff Officer, ASP Peter Boakye. Also present at the meeting were the General Manager of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at GPHA, Dr. Kingsley Antwi-Boasiako, and the General Manager of Risk, Mr. David Songotu.
